What is balance therapy?

Safety begins with balance

The fear of falling is often worse than the fall itself — it restricts, it creates dependence and it takes away quality of life. Our balance training for neurological conditions in Graz and Vienna starts exactly here: we train stability, reaction and body awareness.

With proven methods and modern equipment such as the Balo and the Zebris gait analysis system we help you regain your balance after stroke, or in Parkinson’s or MS — step by step, at your pace.

“When you walk without fear again — that is the moment we are working towards together.”

Treadmill

The treadmill makes safe gait training possible, with or without a harness system. Individually adjustable speeds and body-weight support make it easier to learn to walk again. Many movement repetitions build motor control, mobility and stamina. Whether for gait re-education, balance or strengthening — the treadmill is an essential part of our therapy.

Who is this therapy for?

Does this sound familiar?

Balance problems affect people with very different conditions — what they share is the fear of the next fall and the limits it puts on daily life.

If Parkinson’s makes your steps uncertain, if you freeze while walking or lose your balance — our balance training helps improve these symptoms specifically.

If you are afraid of falling after a stroke, have to hold on while walking or trip on level ground — this therapy is for you.

If MS affects your stability — fatigue, numbness or spasticity disturbing your balance — we help you stay safe and independent.

Frequently asked questions

What you want to know

The key answers at a glance — so you arrive well prepared.

Can falls prevention really reduce the risk of falling?▾
Yes. Research shows clearly that focused balance, strength and coordination training can markedly reduce the risk of falling. People with Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke, ataxia or other neurological conditions benefit particularly from structured falls prevention. In neurological physiotherapy we train balance, reaction, walking confidence and muscle strength, to reduce unsteadiness when walking and improve independence in everyday life. The aim is to avoid falls, regain trust in your own movement and keep mobility in the long term.
Does therapy also help with a strong tremor?▾
Yes. Individually adapted physiotherapy can help even with a pronounced tremor. In Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions in particular we use targeted stabilisation exercises, coordination training, posture work and functional movement. The aim is to improve the quality of movement, build muscle control and make everyday activities such as eating, writing or dressing easier. Although the tremor does not always disappear completely, regular physiotherapy and neurological rehabilitation can markedly reduce the difficulty and improve quality of life.
How soon after a stroke can I start?▾
The earlier the better. Focused neurological rehabilitation can begin in the early phase after a stroke — depending, of course, on your general condition and your doctor’s clearance. Early physiotherapy supports the recovery of movement, balance, muscle strength and coordination. With individual gait training, functional movement training and everyday-oriented exercises, limitations can be reduced and independence regained more quickly. At the first personal conversation we draw up a therapy plan matched to your current situation.
How often a week should I train?▾
For lasting progress we usually recommend two to three sessions a week. Research shows that regular neurological training at sufficient intensity is particularly effective at improving mobility, balance, strength and coordination, and can speed up rehabilitation in Parkinson’s, stroke, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. You also receive individual exercises for home, to secure the results in the long term.
