General & first contact

5 Fragen
What happens at the first conversation?+
The first conversation takes place by phone or in person in Graz or Vienna. We go through your diagnosis and history, your current limitations and goals, which form of therapy and which equipment suit you, and practical questions about appointments, costs and accommodation. It takes about 20–30 minutes and is free and without obligation.
Do you also offer therapy for people with very severe impairment?+
Yes. We also work with patients whose mobility or communication is severely limited. Our equipment and methods can be adapted individually — from minimal remaining movement through to advanced rehabilitation. Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change, remains throughout life. It is never too late to begin focused therapy.
Who is HOME4MOTION for?+
HOME4MOTION specialises in neurological rehabilitation for adults with conditions of the central and peripheral nervous system. These include stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, ALS, SMA, polyneuropathy and other neuromuscular conditions. We treat both patients in early rehabilitation and people with chronic or advanced conditions.
How does HOME4MOTION differ from other therapy providers?+
HOME4MOTION is a specialist neurological therapy centre — not a general rehabilitation centre. All our therapists specialise in neurology. We have 15 state-of-the-art robot-assisted devices and offer intensive therapy at high density. We also have our own therapy apartments for patients coming from further away.
Do I need a referral?+
No — you can contact us directly at any time, without a referral. We first arrange a free initial conversation in which we discuss together whether and how we can help you. For any contribution from health insurance a doctor’s prescription may be helpful or necessary — we are glad to advise you on that.

Therapy and how it works

5 Fragen
What is recoveriX and who is it for?+
recoveriX is an EEG-based brain-computer interface system that directly encourages the brain’s neuroplasticity. Electrodes on the head measure brain signals — as soon as you imagine making a movement, the system responds with an actual movement through electrical stimulation. recoveriX is particularly effective after stroke (improving arm and hand function) and in multiple sclerosis.
Can I use HOME4MOTION as an outpatient, without an intensive programme?+
Yes. Alongside intensive programmes we also offer regular one-to-one outpatient sessions — weekly or as needed. Many patients combine intensive phases with continuing outpatient support to consolidate their progress in the long term.
What is intensive therapy and how does it differ from regular therapy?+
In intensive therapy several sessions a day are grouped into a defined period — two to four weeks, for example. This high density draws on neuroplasticity: the brain learns more effectively through many repetitions in a short time than through occasional weekly appointments. Intensive therapy combines several disciplines — physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and, where useful, recoveriX — matched to your personal goals.
Which therapy disciplines does HOME4MOTION offer?+
We offer: physiotherapy (gait therapy, balance & falls prevention, hand-arm-shoulder, dizziness therapy) in Graz & Vienna; occupational therapy (cognitive training, everyday-living training, splint provision) in Graz; speech and language therapy (language, swallowing, speech, voice) in Graz; recoveriX (EEG-based brain-computer interface) in Graz & Vienna; and neuro-orthopaedics with Dr Svehlik in Graz.
How long does a typical intensive therapy programme last?+
The length depends on your diagnosis, your goals and what you can manage physically. Typical programmes run two to four weeks with two to four sessions a day. There are also shorter focus programmes (a week of intensive hand training, for example) and long-term outpatient support. At the first conversation we put together the plan that suits you.

Conditions & indications

5 Fragen
Which conditions does HOME4MOTION treat?+
We treat: stroke and brain haemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), spinal cord injury (complete and incomplete), polyneuropathy, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) and neuromuscular conditions. If you have questions about your particular diagnosis, get in touch — we will advise you individually.
What is the difference between complete and incomplete spinal cord injury?+
In an incomplete injury some nerve pathways are preserved — remaining function can be activated and improved. Our robot-assisted gait therapy and the suspension system are particularly effective here. In a complete injury the focus is on preserving function above the level of the lesion, preventing complications and training arm, hand and shoulder coordination for more independence in everyday life.
How long after a stroke is therapy still worthwhile?+
Neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new connections — remains throughout life. Even years or decades after a stroke, focused intensive therapy can achieve measurable improvement. Recovery is fastest in the first months after the event, but with the right intensity progress is possible at any stage.
Does therapy make sense in ALS or SMA?+
Yes — even though these conditions are progressive, focused therapy can help preserve existing function for longer, delay complications and improve quality of life. The focus is on maintaining strength, mobility, breathing and swallowing. We develop a realistic programme matched to your goals, together with you and your medical team.
Can HOME4MOTION help in Parkinson’s — even at an advanced stage?+
Yes. In Parkinson’s disease our therapy aims to preserve and improve mobility, balance and everyday function for as long as possible. Gait therapy, balance training (Tymo) and gait phase training (Omego) are particularly effective. Even at advanced stages therapy can help reduce the risk of falling and improve quality of life.

Costs & health insurance

5 Fragen
Is it possible to pay for therapy packages in instalments?+
Talk to us directly — in many cases we find an individual solution. Our aim is that financial hurdles do not stand in the way of necessary rehabilitation. Get in touch for a confidential conversation.
Does health insurance cover the cost?+
HOME4MOTION works outside the public insurance contract system. That means you pay for therapy yourself and, depending on your insurance, can apply for reimbursement. Many of our patients receive partial reimbursement through supplementary insurance or by applying to the ÖGK. We help you with the documents and therapy reports needed.
Is there any funding or financial support?+
Besides reimbursement from health insurance there are other options: long-term care allowance (which can be used for therapy costs), support from social insurance institutions (AUVA, PVA), private accident insurance, and the employers’ liability insurance association in the case of work-related conditions. Our team is glad to advise on what is possible in your situation.
What does a therapy session at HOME4MOTION cost?+
You will find the exact prices on our prices page. Costs vary with the discipline, the length of the session and the programme chosen. For intensive therapy programmes we offer package prices. In the free first conversation you receive a clear overview of costs — with no hidden fees.
Can I claim therapy costs against tax?+
In many cases yes — in Austria, therapy costs in recognised disability or chronic illness can be claimed as an extraordinary expense. We recommend checking this with your tax adviser, and we are glad to issue a confirmation of the therapy you have received.

Therapy equipment & treatment rooms

5 Fragen
Can I see the treatment rooms beforehand?+
Yes, gladly. We invite you to see our rooms and equipment in Graz or Vienna in person — without obligation. Just arrange a first appointment with a tour on +43 (0) 507 400.
Is progress documented and measured?+
Yes. Most of our therapy devices automatically provide measurable data on strength, range of movement and quality of repetition. In addition we carry out regular assessments and record your progress in a therapy report — which we give to you and, if you wish, to your treating doctor.
What therapy equipment is available at HOME4MOTION?+
We have 15 state-of-the-art robot-assisted devices: Lyra & Perpedes (gait therapy), Amadeo & Myro (hand and finger training), Pablo & Diego (arm and shoulder rehabilitation), Tymo & Balo (balance), Omego (gait phase training), and the suspension system & treadmill (safe gait training with weight relief). All the details are on our treatment rooms and therapy equipment page.
Are the treatment rooms step-free?+
Yes — both centres in Graz and Vienna are fully step-free and wheelchair accessible. There is parking directly at the therapy centre. For patients with greater care needs our wheelchair-accessible Freiraum apartment in Graz is available.
What is robot-assisted therapy, and why is it more effective?+
Robot-assisted devices make far more movement repetitions possible than hands-on therapy alone. That matters because the brain learns movement through repetition (neuroplasticity). The devices also give precise feedback and measurable progress, and can be adjusted exactly to each patient’s remaining function — even where there is minimal movement of their own.

Apartments & getting here

5 Fragen
Is the family apartment wheelchair accessible?+
No — the family apartment is on the top floor and is not fitted out for wheelchair use. For clients using a wheelchair or with limited mobility we recommend the Mobility apartment (fully wheelchair accessible) or the Freiraum apartment (fully wheelchair accessible, on the ground floor).
Does HOME4MOTION offer accommodation during intensive therapy?+
Yes — we offer three therapy apartments right next to the therapy centre in Graz: the family apartment, the wheelchair-accessible Freiraum apartment and the fully wheelchair-accessible Mobility apartment. So you and your family can stay comfortably on site during intensive therapy. All the details are on our apartments page.
What is the best way to get to the therapy centre in Graz or Vienna?+
Both centres are easy to reach by car, with parking on site. Graz main station is about 10 minutes away; Vienna is well connected by rail and underground. If you need help planning your journey — for example with a wheelchair or care needs — we are glad to assist.
How far is the apartment from the therapy centre?+
The apartments are right beside the therapy centre in Graz — there is no further journey to make. That is a decisive advantage for patients with limited mobility.
Can my family travel with me and stay in the apartment?+
Yes — all three apartments are designed for two people, and the family apartment has a sofa bed for a third. Many of our patients come with a companion or a family member.
